- Three programmes to choose from
- Blended learning approach used
- All training costs covered by Kaap Agri
The Kaap Agri Academy is excited to be accepting applications for its 2023 Farmer Development Programmes. With a strong focus on contributing to the transformation of South African agriculture, the Academy aims to empower new generation farmers with the knowledge, skills and practical experience to one day become successful commercial farmers.
A recent student who has seen first-hand the benefits of training through the Kaap Agri Academy is Lindy Kraak de Vos. Lindy was one of 32 new generation farmers who graduated from the Academy in 2021, and the top achiever in the plant production programme. Lindy believes the programme has given her the knowledge and skills to confidently enter the market and make a meaningful impact on her community.
"Things I am doing differently now is that I am planning before I start planting. When I start planting, I already have the end-user earmarked or the market secured. I’m more focused on the importance of soil analysis before starting the planting process. Record-keeping on the farm has also improved.” says Lindy
Students have three programmes to choose from:
- NQF 2 Learnership Programme in Mixed Farming Systems
- NQF 3 Learnership Programme in Animal Production; and
- NQF 3 Learnership Programme in Plant Production.
The training takes on a blended learning approach, with a combination of online learning, video-based learning and mandatory practical learning sessions in Porterville.
Criteria
The criteria for those interested includes that they reside in the Western or Northern Cape Province, that they are able to attend all sessions (whether online or in-person), and that they are recent Grade 12 graduates and/or involved in a farming operation.
Fees
While no stipends will be paid to students, all training costs will be covered by Kaap Agri. In addition, for the days when students will need to be in Porterville, Kaap Agri will cover the costs of transport, food and accommodation. The fact that these programmes are sponsored is what makes the empowerment of new generation farmers possible and Kaap Agri is proud to be contributing to the transformation of South African agriculture.
