The KAL Trust’s Home offering provides holistic support that responds to employees’ housing needs − from essential structural improvements to practical upgrades that enhance daily living.
By addressing both immediate challenges and longer-term requirements, the Trust helps create environments for employees and their families that are not only safe, but also functional, stable and dignified.
This approach reflects a commitment to supporting employees where it matters most, i.e. at home, recognising that suitable living conditions are fundamental to overall wellbeing.
Recent financial support from the Trust demonstrates the value of access to funding that enables much-needed home improvements.
“Over the past financial year, the KAL Trust provided funding of R1,16 million to help employees with their homes. This is where our CARE commitment becomes tangible. It’s not only about large interventions – often it’s the smaller, practical changes that have the biggest impact on how people live every day. The Home Assistance offering allows us to respond in a way that is both meaningful and relevant to each employee’s circumstances,” says Barend Sulvester, Senior Manager: Sustainability.
Support when it matters most
Damien Witten, Senior Logistics Assistant at Agrimark Mechanisation Paarl, who resides in the area, applied to the Trust to seek help with housing after the rent at his previous home increased beyond what he could afford. This led to conflict between him and the landlord. Unable to afford the cost of a new rental home, he applied to the Trust for assistance and was granted a Nutec home for his family, which he built on his mother’s property.
“It was great that I could apply to the Trust when I desperately needed help and could not provide a home for my wife and my 11-and 6-year-old sons. The Trust helped me get back on my feet and gave my family the stability and dignity we needed during a very difficult time.”

Enhancing everyday safety
Donald Inte, Warehouse Assistant at Agrimark Augrabies, applied to the Trust for funding to install a safety gate and fence to improve security at his home. Previously his yard was open, which allowed uncontrolled access to his home and led to ongoing stress due to incidents of theft and the presence of drug addicts in the area. With the gate now installed, the property is secure, his family has peace of mind, and they have significantly safer space.
"I am truly grateful. My family and everything I worked for are now safe and secure. I can finally have peace of mind knowing that our property is protected. The help from the Trust has meaningfully reduced my daily stress and restored a secure sense of safety in my home."

Strengthening home security
Derick Mouton, Trade Clerk at Agrimark Augrabies, who lives in Augrabies, applied to the Trust for support to install a safety fence at his home following ongoing safety concerns in the area and a break-in at his home. The incident left him and his family feeling very vulnerable and unsafe. With the assistance of the Trust, the fence has since been installed, providing security and restoring a sense of safety. The improvement has significantly reduced their fear of intruders and brought renewed peace of mind to the whole family.
“I am very satisfied with the support we received, and deeply relieved that our home is now properly protected. My wife and I, together with our children, can finally feel safe in our home without the constant worry of break-ins, thanks to the Trust.”
